........ Slavery and Freedom........
Slavery and Freedom are concepts as old as human civilization. Humans have always sought and continue to seek freedom. They seek freedom in gaining and constructing great states, and they seek freedom in acquiring rights. This pursuit has never ended; it continues as if no one is capable of offering them freedom. Humans subconsciously become slaves because of their great desire for freedom. Man strives for freedom but finally becomes a slave; he battles for it but eventually forfeits the struggle in its truest form and ends up being enslaved by himself. There has always been a link between freedom and slavery since mankind has ever wanted to be free from slavery and has continued to do so. In this discussion,I intend to answer a pair of distinct questions. 1. Is it possible to gain freedom by eradicating slavery? Or is it possible to oust slavery?
2. Which is absolute: freedom or slavery?
Since the concepts of freedom and enslavement are so complex, it is difficult to come up with a perfect definition of either. As a result, there are obvious distinctions between ancient Greek, medieval Muslim, and current philosophers. Over a period of time, this concept of freedom and servitude has taken on various generic shapes based on different scholarly views, as have various interpretations of the terms slavery and freedom. They described freedom and slavery based on their life experiences and understandings. However, I won't define or assess those previously offered definitions by past philosophers. I will rather analyze my understandings of both freedom and slavery on the basis of their applicability in real life than depend on theoretical definitions and explanations.
Freedom and slavery are dependent on each other; they rather give each other plenitude. It's akin to the reality of light and its connection with darkness and how they assist each other in guaranteeing their existence by illustrating that if there isn't any light, there is no gloom, and the other way around. The distinction between freedom and slavery is analogous to the difference between light and darkness. They complete each other by making each other meaningful, as freedom is pointless without slavery. Without enslavement, freedom is inconceivable. In essence, freedom exists as long as slavery exists within a society or state.
Freedom, in my opinion, is a state of the human psyche that is free of responsibility and desire. Humans are free as long as they aren't held accountable for their acts and are able to either fully fulfil the desires they have or completely free of that. Man has a responsibility to be accountable if his actions cause any harm to anyone in the society and also man has a plenty of desires as well which makes him to persuade after something ie. Freedom and eventually he becomes a slave of his own. Man might be free forever if his acts and desires do not impact the interests of others, which is never practical, emphasizing that man has responsibility as his actions affect the interests of others and man has desires to be free, to be powerful, to rule over other etc. However, responsibility and desire restrict his power of will and places him in a system referred to as society. When an individual enters this system, his freedom goes away, and he becomes a slave. Humans have been made slaves by society, which establishes and upholds values, principles, and laws. In general, it appears that humans enslaved themselves by developing society, and this wasn't done by human will; humans needed (or were compelled) to create a society that would ensure the safety and protection of the human species. So, humans are born free but subsequently enslave themselves for the sake of protection and safety. It is a contract between human beings and society that Rousseau refers to as the Social Contract, in which man compromises his freedom for the sake of his interests( such as Interest of power, honor etc.). It is evident that, despite the fact that humans are naturally free, they trade their freedom in order to live in peace and harmony. Humans surrender to slavery by sacrificing their ultimate human will power or freedom or liberty.
Some philosophers believe that death is the only way to achieve ultimate freedom, as Socrates stated that true freedom lies in becoming close to God, the master. According to Socrates, the body is like a prison that imprisons the soul; death opens the door of that prison, allowing the soul to get closer to God, the ultimate master of the universe. Most religious philosophies align with this Socratic concept, as the primary goal of all faiths is to bring adherents closer to God, and thus it appears quite correct that death liberates humans since death frees man from responsibility. Well, this circumstance really decreases the limitations placed on freedom by human beings on Earth; in fact, it lessens all limitations to liberty save the potential to be God or Creator. This is to argue that death decreases all human responsibilities, but it does not diminish one thing, and that is the desires that humans have (desire to be rewarded in heaven by the Creator), which keep them slaves to God since humans cannot get into heaven on their own unless God lets them in there. Hence, they remain slaves even after death. However, religious thinking about freedom makes far more sense than existentialist thinking about freedom. In its actual sense, the existentialist definition of freedom is narrower, more constrained, and impossible to acquire. The religious concept of freedom is not absolute, but it allows humans more freedom; yet, both concepts fail to demonstrate freedom as absolute. They demonstrate slavery to be absolute, or at least more powerful than freedom. Slavery always triumphs over liberty. The freedom humans have is their choice. Man is allowed to choose his master, either the eternal God or the earthly society without divine morals and commandments, to whom he is going to be a slave.
To summarize, absolute freedom does not breathe in the society. the freedom we have is the choice to choose our masters. Slavery is the only authentic living artifact. We could say that humans are born to be enslaved either by society, the state, or divine morals and commandments.
